Where: The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce meeting room at the Gadsden State Cherokee Campus, 801 Cedar Bluff Road, Centre, AL. 35960.
Why: Bi-monthly meeting.

Jim Bennett
Jim is a graduate of Jacksonville State University and the University of Alabama. He is a former state senator from Birmingham and also served as Alabama's 49th Secretary of State. Jim was instrumental in the development of Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park and the historian for the Iron & Steel Museum of Alabama located there. Jim is Commissioner of the State of Alabama Department of Labor, Vice Chairman of the Alabama Historical Ironworks Commission and is also an author. He wrote the books, "Old Tannehill, A History of the Pioneer Ironworks in Roupes Valley," "Tannehill and the Growth of the Alabama Iron Industry," and "Historic Birmingham and Jefferson County." His latest book, "Iron and Steel: A Guide to the Birmingham Area Industrial Heritage," was written along with Karen R. Utz.
Mr. Bennett will be discussing Moses Stroup and his Alabama Furnaces. There were three, Round Mountain (1852), Tannehill (1859) and Oxmoor (1863). Round Mountain Furnace was located in Cherokee County. Moses' father, Jacob Stroup, built the Cane Creek Furnace near Anniston in 1840. Jim will also be discussing the development of the Alabama iron industry.
