Our Guest Speaker: Darryl Patton
He authored the books, America's Goat Man and Tommie Bass, Herb Doctor of Shinebone Ridge. Many can remember seeing the legendary "Goat Man", Charles "Ches" McCartney, travel through the county. Arthur Lee "Tommie" Bass is revered for his knowledge knowledge of nature and the healing power of herbs. Darrly first met Tommie in 1983 at his Leesburg home and would spend much time with him prior to his passing away in 1996 at age 88. Now Darryl is an herb expert in his own right. Darryl is also a co-founder of the Southeast School of Outdoor Skills where he classes on a variety of topics including survival and herb identification/uses.
We will be presenting the Society's 2011 awards. Recipients include Charles R. Moody and Roy "Buddy" Knapp, Jr.
Refreshments will be served
We will be giving away a copy of Martha Penland Haney's book, Frog Mountain Memories, from the Back Roads of My Heart, as a door prize.
